FASHIONCLASH & PL-Line

FASHIONCLASH is proud to continue partnership with PL- Line, Maastricht based lifestyle icon that has been a great supporter  of FASHIONCLASH since the very beginning.

'WE SEE CLOTHING AS AN EXTENSION OF YOUR OWN PERSONALITY, THAT IS WHAT WE ALSO SEE IN THE SHOWS DURING FASHIONCLASH FESTIVAL'.

If there is one store in Maastricht that hardly needs an introduction, it’s Maastricht’s style emporium PL-Line. PL-Line has been redefinding ‘fashion’ for over a decade in Maastricht. PL-Line was founded by Léon Holla, the first PL-Line boutique was opened in 1993 in Maastricht. High fashion and a pure sense of luxury are at the core of the PL-Line stores. All through the years these shops have become a fashion staple for anyone who loves fashion. Besides that, PL-Line is a lifestyle.

In short, PL-Line is especially accustomed for foreword thinking men and woman who like fashionable clothing and good quality of service.

During FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015, PL-Line store is one of the hotspots where you can discover work of fashion designer Wilfried Lantoine and shoe designer Alexander Khorikian.
And of course you can find an refind selection of clothing and accessories by brands like Tom Ford, Prada, Saint Laurent, Moncler, Balmain, Rick Owens, Lanvin and many more.

Chris van den Elzen at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015

Chris van den Elzen is a Dutch designer, based in Utrecht. He focuses on shoes design - his accesorise look like futuristic art pieces. Chris will present his newest collection with Judith van Vliet at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015 Show case.

Chris says: I always try to find a balance between High Tech and Hand-crafted element in my designs. I design shoes, accessories, jewelry and materials. Last June was my catwalk debut, together with Judith van Vliet I created the EXCIDIUM collection, I focused on the Shoes and Jewelry, Judith on the garments. The collection was presented at the Fashionclash festival 2014. But my shoes have seen more places than me at the moment and they are still traveling. From Amsterdam to Dubai, from Vienna to New York. What I would aspire is a show in London, being part of the official London Fashion Week Program.

Who are your artistic influences or inspirations and why?
My inspirations come a lot from the architecture and the living creatures around me. I love to combine Architectural with amorphous shapes.

Finding your own voice is difficult, where and how do you find your personal creativity (before you start designing; during the design process)?
That is an ongoing story, so many things spook to my mind, connecting those stories to create a concept goes automatic.

What was the most important thing your parents taught you, that you now bring into your work?
Be yourself and push further then your boundaries, never give up if you really want something.

Which item in your wardrobe really typifies you and why?
My black neoprene sweater, why? because I like the futuristic feel of it, and it’s a minimalistic masterpiece.

What is your most favorite accessory and why?
My first necklace made from a left over piece of my graduation collection, just some sentimental values

Are you a people's person or a loner?
Definitely a people’s person!

What do you strive for in your work?
Passion and a perfect balance between high-tech and hand-crafts.

What makes your items different from others (What is your designing philosophy)?
I always try to be pure, I don’t like nonsense and I try to make something that you want to treasure and keep even when you can’t really use it anymore. make it an art piece, a collectors item.

Fashion needs to progress year in year out, how do you keep innovating?
I always try to improve my skills and to perfect the fit and comfort of the shoes.

What is your ultimate goal? What do you want to achieve with your projects?
My goal is to be an innovative and inspiring shoe designer.

What are your views on gender categorization in fashion ? (as in differentiating between male/female collections, is this necessary ?)
I think gender in collections is fading, Gender is more and more disappearing, I think everybody needs to wear what they want to and feel happy about it.

Do you believe the western binary gender system (male/female) will eventually disappear?
Jup I do. I think it be great when it does. Can’t wait for that time to come.

What are your thoughts on the idea that unisex is the new androgynous in fashion?
I think there is still a big difference between androgynous an unisex.. I think Unisex clothing can be worn they way that person want to wear it/combine it… an androgynous person is a person who you can’t really define into an gender the first moment you see them. but It’s the moment you start to learn to know the person that counts, that’s what makes it the person. and I think an androgen person will look androgyn no matter what kind of clothing he/she wears. It’s all about the face/hair/body shape.

What has changed/happened since your last attendance at FASHIONCLASH?
It feels like jumping into a wind turbine. loved every moment of the ride and it’s still continuing.

Why have you decided to participate at FASHIONCLASH Festival once again?
Because they give you a real platform, love the vibes before, during and after the festival. I feels like becoming part of a family. A family that you take care of, that you love and that you treasure.

A simple necklace Yojiro made with a small scissors. The most practical item he has made ever.

Some kind of illusion?

What is the contemporary condition of fashion in your place of residence?
Florence is a famous tourism spot, stylish people from all around the world. The great thing is PITTI UOMO, the most interesting menswear party only happens here in Florence which is an inspiring street show for us.

What is your ultimate goal? What do you want to achieve with your projects?
We have no idea about any ultimate goal except to keep realizing our thoughts gradually.

What are your views on gender categorization in fashion ? (as in differentiating between male/female collections, is this necessary ?)
Is not necessary only into two genders, may have unisex or others. However female/male category might be always there, like the two ends with mixtures in between.
Pattern-making

Do you believe the western binary gender system (male/female) will eventually disappear?
No.

What are your thoughts on the idea that unisex is the new androgynous in fashion ?
Shall be interesting and practical for the market.

What has changed/happened since your last attendance at FASHIONCLASH?
We may say that we started to develop collaborations with some boutiques located in Florence Italy, it’s an inspiring progress for us.

Leonie & Lois - Spijkerbrij

Meet Leonie & Lois, a brand from Utrecht, the Netherlands.

After individually being titled as stylist, Leonie and Lois met each other 5 years ago at the School of Arts (HKU). They are inspired by each other with their different views on the same projects. Their mutual fascination for crafts and the passion for repurpose waste, results in graduating together with the project Spijkerbrij. In July 2014, they started their own company Leonie & Lois.

How would you describe your work? What is your technique?
To show the whole story and process from waste material to new products we build a portable factory. Our inspiration comes from crafts, by collecting knowledge from craftsman and turn it into a new concept. Spijkerbrij is a result of our visit to the old paper mill in Zaandam, where the still make paper out of old cloth. Instead of making paper of old jeans we wanted to press 3D-products.

"We think it's very important to show how a product is made, and who made it."

Have you shown your collections before? if so, where?
Since last july we have been traveling around with our portable factory. It's great to see such a respond on our project. When we were graduated for only two weeks, our first showcase was at the Modefabriek in Amsterdam. After that we collaborated with stores by doing events together and with schools by giving workshops. In April we were part of the Amsterdam Denim Days and we took our factory international, giving live demonstrations at Salone del Mobile in Milan!

BLANK ETIQUETTE at FASHIONCLASH Festival 2015

Meet Tosca Wyss - Berlin based designer who stands behind the ‘BLANK ETIQUETTE’ . She was born and raised in Switzerland, but she did her Master degree in Fashion Design at the University of Art and Design Weissensee in Berlin. She will present her new collection in the fashion show program of FASHIONCLASH Festival, and in the market section you will be able to meet her and buy her designs. Furthermore she is also taking part at the accompanying Side Program showcase "Designer in Store" - at the MAYFAIR shop in Maastricht.

Finding your own voice is difficult, where and how do you find your personal creativity (before you start designing; during the design process)?
I am inspired from life, that can be everything, nature, music, cities, traveling, people wether I like them or sometimes also from people I don`t understand. My problem is not to find inspiration, but to organize them in my mind and then it`s the challenge to transmit this diversity in a own homogen language, that can be understood by the audience.
